Muscle soreness from athletic injuries occur b/c of a build up of lactic acid build up in the muscles which = pain and soreness.
Heat- (but not too hot, obviously) will increase the circulation and will help flush out the lactic acid.
Drinking water- also helps flush lactic acid.
Products such as Icy Hot, BenGay, etc - These work because the "sensory" neuropathway take precedence over the "pain" neuropathway, therefore reducing the painful sensation. That's why it's instinct to rub your toe/knee/elbow after you bump it...you are trying to "mask" the pain....which takes us to...
Massaging-which increases circulation AND blocks pain sensations.
If the pain persists, or becomes worse, make an appointment w/ a doctor.
Hope you feel better soon!
