Question:
Pain in my joints - any ideas?
2008-10-03 16:56:16 UTC
I hav pain in a few of my joints - hips, knees, shoulders and hands - particularly when i'm in bed - its making me restless and feel that i need to be constantly moving around to ease the pain as its really bad if i stay in the same position for long (which is really annoying when ur trying to sleep) therefore i'm not getting a decent sleep.
My knees are also painful in cold weather, and my hands are really painful if i have to write or type for long (they're sore from typing this!)

Should i see a doctor? Could it be arthritis?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks x

Seems to mirror exactly my symptoms and I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis although I manage as best I can. I get the hip pain when in bed and on waking and it can make you miserable I agree. You really need to see your GP for a referal to confirm the diagnosis. I also suggest that you buy as many books as you can on arthritis as self-help can be invaluable. Most of all, keep positive!

My mom and I are experiencing the same thing. We've had blood tests done and they all come back normal. Her's started about two weeks before mine did. Both started with a rash on the arms, legs, and torso then progressed to severe joint pain. I've also had a low fever and the head ache comes and goes. Our joint pain is bad (quite debilitating) no matter what time of day. We also have swelling of the hands and feet. Very frustrating and would love to have an answer. Hope you feel better soon.

you don't say how old you are, but it could be a lot of things, do you drink a lot of orange juice? that can cause a build up of acids in your joints and make them feel achey, arthritis usually starts in just one place, not all the joints at once, I have dodgy joints as well and I find magnesium tablets in the morning and at night helps me sleep and stops the restless legs thing, maybe a few tests at the doctors would be a good idea, just to rule out stuff like rheumatic joints or something, but ibuprofen tablets will help bring any joint swelling down, you could start there!

You should consult you Dr. it sounds like Rheumatoid arthritis affecting more than one joint at a time. He will probably do a blood test first to establish ESR which is raised when Rh., arth is present.

Go see him he can only help. Good luck.
