First thing in the face of all things is to stay calm and avoid stress.

Chances are you suffer from tinnitus but for sure you should check your doctor.

Tinnitus is the sound of a ringing, swishing, or other type that seems to originate in the ear or head.

One of the causes of the most common type of tinnitus is damage to the microscopic endings of the hearing nerve in the inner ear. Advancing age is generally accompanied by a certain amount of hearing nerve impairment, and consequently tinnitus. Today, loud noise exposure is a very common cause of tinnitus, and it often damages hearing. Unfortunately, many people are unconcerned about the harmful effects of loud sounds excessive, from firearms, and high intensity music. Some drugs (eg, aspirin) and other diseases of the inner ear (Meniere's syndrome) can cause tinnitus.

If you suffer from tinnitus it is true, see the following steps to reduce the intensity of tinnitus.

It is important to realize that the hearing system is one of the mechanisms of the most delicate and sensitive in the body. As it is part of the general nervous system. Therefore, in order to lessen the intensity of tinnitus, it is advisable to make every effort to:

• Avoid exposure to noise and loud sounds.

• Control your blood pressure.

• Reduce salt intake.

• Avoid nerve stimulants such as coffee and colas (caffeine) and tobacco (nicotine).

• Try to stop worrying about the tinnitus. Often, the more you worry and concentrate on the noise, the louder it will be.

• Get adequate rest and avoid fatigue.

• Use voice hider. Tinnitus is usually more bothersome when the surroundings are quiet, especially when you are in bed. The sound that rivals like the ticking of a clock, a radio, or a fan may help hide the tinnitus. Helper tools like hearing that produce a competitive sound may help reduce the awareness of the tinnitus.

• Avoid aspirin or aspirin products in large quantities.

In most cases tinnitus is relatively minor. That is not to say that it is not also extremely irritating and annoying as well. There are many differences of opinion when it comes to how to cure tinnitus. While many believe there is no cure others believe that there are various things that a person can do to stop this problem. And in general definition wouldn't that constitute as a cure?

Some people often times suffer from this condition and do not even know it. They may get the occasional ringing in the ears that doesn't seem to go away. But in the end, it does go away and they forget about it. If these instances where it happens and goes away start to get more frequent, you should pay careful attention as it can turn very serious, very fast!

There are varying degrees of tinnitus. In some cases it may be a simple ringing of the ears. In other more extreme cases however this ringing can become very loud blocking out all other sound. When this happens it can become quite troubling for the person experiencing it because they hear little else.

Tinnitus is not a disease on it's own. It is usually a symptom of many other underlying disease conditions which could have been caused by several factors. Considering the discomfort that tinnitus causes it's sufferers, it is important to know how to cure tinnitus.

The manifestation of tinnitus includes the sufferer perceiving all kinds and ranges of sounds. It could be high or low, and may occur intermittently or continuously. It could be so disconcerting as to prevent a person from carrying out any activity or even sleeping.

There are several approaches when attempting a cure for tinnitus. Of prime importance however is determining what the underlying cause is. All treatment attempts made without isolating the real cause usually ends up being ineffective

When the sufferer visit's the hospital, the doctor tries to determine what the cause(es) might be, by quizzing the patient to obtain a medical history. Physical examination is also carried out to deduce where the buzz being heard is coming from. It might by this means be possible to find a quick cure for the condition if the doctor is able to locate foreign bodies, wax or fluid causing the symptoms. Getting rid of them could immediately bring an end to the discomfort being felt by the patient. However, most times it is not that easy.

Tinnitus management

Now that you know what causes tinnitus, how can you treat it? In the absence of an established cure, treatment programs

should include not only adjusting to the sensation of constant noise, but also learning to live with the numerous negative

consequences that may be associated with the problem.

Research has emerged suggesting tinnitus is both an audiological and psychological phenomenon, activating three areas of

the brain:

1) Central auditory nervous system, which determines which sounds you pay attention to,

2) Limbic system, which is responsible for emotions and some memory processes, and

3) Autonomic nervous system, which manages the stress and relaxation responses.

Many tinnitus sufferers experience considerable emotional distress and display thought patterns, beliefs, and behaviors

that are similar to those in patients with depression, anger, and anxiety. Research consistently shows that cognitive-

behavioral therapy, a well-respected form of psychotherapy, can be useful in managing the emotional, thought, and

behavioral difficulties of people with tinnitus.

Tinnitus affects over 36 million Americans. A medical condition arising from dysfunction in the auditory system, tinnitus

is characterized by persistent ringing, roaring, and/or clicking noises that rarely subside. If you have tinnitus, it can

make you feel like you're going crazy. But you don't have to suffer - tinnitus is treatable.

Before you can treat tinnitus, it's important to know what causes it. The short answer: a variety of things. Tinnitus can

be caused by something as simple as wax buildup on the eardrum, or something more serious like a tumor on the hearing

nerve. Various ear diseases are associated with tinnitus, as are effects from drug or alcohol abuse.

But most often it's repeated exposure to loud noises like gunfire, rock concerts, and chain saws that cause tinnitus. So it

makes sense that one of the best ways to prevent tinnitus is to protect and preserve your hearing, whose complex mechanism

turns sound waves into meaningful information your brain can process and identify.

Sound waves enter the ear canal and vibrate the ear drum. This causes the middle ear mechanism (ossicles) to vibrate,

sending the sound waves on to the inner ear and brain. Here they are turned into data your brain recognizes as sounds. Soft

sounds like whispers don't cause any harm, but loud sounds like airplane jets cause discomfort and, after repeated

exposure, hearing damage such a tinnitus.
