Question:
I can really use some advice on the after affects of an epidural?

I just had my first epidural steroid injection about 31 hours ago. It was necessary to relieve inflammation in my sciatic region. It was a fine experience but what I would like to know is do some people report having mood swings as a result of the steroids in their system? It is the weekend and I have left messages to my doctors. I'd like any of your personal experiences, or expertise. I thank you all in advance.

I have had six epidural steroid injections in the past two years. After each one I felt terrible for about three days. I felt disoriented, achy, and had chills like I had the flu or something. On the third day I usually felt pretty normal. I never felt "high" afterwords. For me, the injections didn't help the pain, but everyone is different.

I would also recommend that you educate yourself about the possibility of "spinal headache" . It's even worse than it sounds! I had two blood patches to repair the dural puncture. The whole experience was a nightmare. I wish I had researched it further before I had the injections.

I can feel for you. My son experienced an epidural a few months ago....after, his Doctor put him on some heavy medication. Don't remember mood swings, he was high all the time, finally quit the drugs on his own. Not a good experience. Wish I could be of more help. Good luck---hang in there...

I'm sorry but I have little experience with epidurals. If you feel to bad enough, get to the emergency room.

And I want to congratulate you on being 26 months sober!!! Way to go!!!
