I have had problems with headaches since I was 8 years old I have been on all types of beta blockers, prozac Sodium Valproate(1200mg) daily, I am 53 years of age, Thought I was through the menopause as I first got tested for it when I was 40 so had all the signs (flushings) etc and to this day I am still having flushings, was on HRT for five years, then when taken off it, due to the headaches I was given the mirena coil had that in for five years as well, but had it taken out, and that was when the headaches became a daily occurrence. I have had a scan and everything was fine, I don,t know how much longer I can put up with this, and as for my Doctor well he either does not care or he has not got a clue what to do next. Would be grateful if anybody got any information, or been in the same position, I have also tried a lot of herbal remedies but to no avail at the moment taking anduvite

It sounds to me like your migraines are hormonal. Having low estrogen can cause that. I have 2 potential treatments. One: start using the estrogen patch. It will keep your estrogen fairly even--decreasing estrogen causes migraines so if you take pills, you get a roller coaster of hormones on a daily basis as the dose from the pill hits you all atonce then goes really low at end of day before next dose. The patch keeps estrogen relatively even with constant dose. Play around with that. Try the higher dose.

Other possibility is to take the drug Topamax. DNA take with estrogen. It can make estrogen low but even in brain.

ONe other things to do right now without needing to see doc: take mega dosages of magnesium, vitamin B2, and CoQ-10. These are supplements available at vitamins store. Mega dosages of magnesium give you loose bowels so take calcium to counteract that. Take these daily. Way to reduce migraine frequency and intensity.

Doc can give you prescription for tricyclics antidepressants to reduce migraines.a again, something to do daily as preventative.

Also look up low Tyramine diet.

Avoid caffeine

Good luck!

I'm wondering if you could be suffering from a form of cluster headaches. You've said that your headaches are not too painful and normally cluster headaches are EXTREMELY painful; they are far worse than migraines. But the way that you have described the pattern of them sounds similar. I suffered from cluster headaches and when I did have them, I did a little bit of research, and what I found out was: They are generally caused by stress. You need to examine areas in your life which may be cauing you stress and deal with them as necessary, because the headaches will not go away by themselves. If you need to do something as drastic as changing jobs in order to deal with the problem, then that's what needs to happen. That said, they can often be worse at certain times of the year, and this is mainly to do with the seasons changing. I don't know where you live, but if you're in the UK or any other part of the world which experiences a degree of seasonal change, you may find that now that it's getting a little warmer, this is what has triggered it. They might just stop by themselves once the weather settles. In terms of taking tablets to deal with them, I never used to bother. I didn't want to take anything on a daily basis as a precaution, and if you wait until the headache has actually started to take a painkiller, then by the time the painkiller kicks in the headache is already a lot better all by itself. I just used to suffer the pain and bang my head against a brick wall as and when necessary. Also, the reason why they are called "cluster headaches" is because they appear in clusters. You may have one every day for a few weeks and then they will just go away by themselves. But then you'll get another "cluster" a few months later. So, I guess the short story is that I can't really give you any advice. I don't suffer from them at the moment, but from what I've been told by my doctor and what I have read online, this is just luck and I should be prepared for them to return at any moment. But if you think this sounds like what you're going through then just google "cluster headaches" and see if what comes up sounds like what you have.

Well, I have an elderly Uncle who thought he was having Migraines and he just put up with them for over 30 years. Then one day he went to see a traditional healer who did manipulations and it relieved the condition for 3 or 4 days. The healer then told him to go and see a Chiropractor who also took X-Rays. They found one of his Cervical vertebrae was mis-aligned and pinching nerves. The NHS doctor's X-Rays just were not taken from enough different angles to see. He had no more 'migraines after a short course of treatment from the Chiroparactor.
