BRACES DON'T HURT! Ok now that this is out of the way I'll answer your questions.

1) So it's been awhile since I had them and it will differ based on how much work you need. but I had one consultation, then the next appointment I get spacers which are little rubber things that go in your teeth to prep for braces (don't hurt), then you get braces (you'll have them for awhile and it took 2 hours to put them on), all your other appointments from then on will be to tighten or adjust them which can make your teeth feel tight but it didn't hurt me, then you have the final appointment to get them off and get a retainer

2) My pain level would be 1 because after then tightening your teeth do feel awkward and tight but not painful.

3) 0 level of pain, braces don't hurt

4) I think mine were tightened every couple of months? can't remember. doesn't hurt just feels tight

5) no clue

6)I broke a wire and it didn't hurt. I didn't even feel it, I only noticed because my braces felt loose. You can't eat popcorn, corn on the cob, and other things

7) You get used to it after about a week.

8) My friends and I only had them for like 2 years I think.

Trust me you'll do fine. Every kid does it, it's no big deal.

Edit: I had to get teeth pulled to get rid of all my baby teeth and a lot of people I know did as well. This is a bit painful, a 4 on the scale because of the anesthesia shot but after that you're numb so no pain. It's just messing because of all the blood after the teeth pulling, but see, I didn't even remember that part of the process so it didn't make that much of a negative impression on me.

1) First all they do is put glue on your teeth, individually, then put the bracket on, dry it with an electric dryer tool, and after all that is done, they put the wire in. As long as the wire isn't poking or jabbing into the gums in the back of your mouth, the entire process doesn't hurt at all.

2) Zero. When they put IN the braces, it didn't hurt. It's afterwards that is painful.

3) 6. It isn't a pain so much as an uncomfortable "GAH I want to rip these out." feeling. Your mouth will feel tight and itchy almost, like your teeth are itchy. It's hard to explain. Most of the pain will be felt on the inside of your mouth, like your cheeks and lips, because all that metal will be scratchy. You WILL want wax.

4) It depends on what your orthodontist tells you. Mine was every five to six weeks, but now it is every 3 weeks. It changes alot. And whether or not it hurts depends on the progress you make. It only hurts when they put the elastics back on, because the elastics (the little, colorful rubber bands around your brackets) are very tight, and there will be a lot of pushing and pressure involved in putting those on. My pain factor is more level 4.

5) That isn't something I can tell you, only your insurance people. But the payment (most of the time) will be broken down into a payment plan and if you go with a good orthodontist, they may be able to work with you.

6) You can't break the wire with food, you can only pop off brackets, and that doesn't hurt, its just very uncomfortable. Avoid crunchy foods that take a lot of chewing, like ice and crunchy cheetos, suckers, jaw breakers, pretzels etc. After a while, you will learn how to chew in a way that wont pop anything off. They will usually give you a list of foods that aren't smart to eat. Just be careful.

7) You'll get used to them after about 3 weeks, if not less. That's how long it took me. After about a month you'll forget you even have braces.

8) Depends, I've known people who've had to have theirs for 4 years, and some only a year and a half. It really depends on the severity of your teeth. If they are moderately bad, like mine were, they usually only keep them on for about a year and a half to two years. Mine will be off after a year and a half. But if they are bad, to where your mouth and the way you chew is corrupted by your teeth (rare cases) then it will for a while. Just until the teeth and the roots are straightened up with eachother.

Braces seriously aren't the horror story many people say they are. They are more a nuisance than a pain. And the outcome is worth it. So don't be scared, it's really very overestimated than how it actually is. (:

1) It starts by you going in and getting x-rays. They then tell you what you need to get. You only go in once to get the braces in, but it does take a few hours.

2) I would rate it a two. Putting braces in does not hurt AT ALL. If anything, it tastes bad and is nerve racking to worry about it.

3) I would rate it a 4. It is pretty much just sore and hurts a little when you eat. The longer you go with braces, the easier it gets to eat and talk and everything.

4) It depends on the orthodontist but usually it is around every 3 or 4 weeks. It is still around a 4, and it is only afterward that you are a little sore.

5) You will actually have to call your insurance to find out. All plans are different. Also depending on the dentist they may or may not cover it.

6) I have never broken a wire. You cannot eat caramel, popcorn, gum that is not sugar-free, salads are hard to eat without getting it stuck in your braces, etc. Also:

7)It should only take a few weeks to get used to them.

8) It is usually around 2 or 3 years.

And I have never heard of anyone getting their teeth pulled when they get braces. You really aren't even supposed to get braces until all your baby teeth are gone.

1) The whole process starts in one appointment. You just go once to actually put them on, then come back every eight weeks or so so that they can tighten them and change the wires. To actually put them on, it takes between one and two hours.

2) On a scale of one to ten, with one being not painful at all and ten being the worst you've ever felt in your life, the pain when they put on the braces is about a three. Mostly it's just discomfort, because they put things in weird places in your mouth and then put in that horrible suction...but it's overall not that painful. You have nothing to worry about.

3) After you get the braces, the pain is about a six. This is mostly when you eat. The braces will feel like they're pushing on the outside of your mouth a little, which just feels weird, and whenever you chew, your teeth won't want to touch anything. This goes away after about two days, and that's only six meals and forty-eight hours. Again, not a huge deal.

4) Like I said above, mine is around every eight weeks, and yours probably will be too. You get the same "new braces" feeling, but that doesn't usually last as long as when you first get them on. The pain factor for getting them tightened is a two.

5) I'm not positive, but I think they will cover most of the cost, if not all.

6) You can't chew gum, eat really sticky foods like caramel, whole apples, and you can't eat most popcorn or nuts. If you're really scared about breaking your wires or, and this is more normal, loosening a bracket, then you can stick strictly to these rules, but sometimes I cheat with the popcorn a little and I'm fine.

7) I said before that you will get used to the braces in about two days, but it might last longer when it comes to things like brushing your teeth.

8) This totally depends on how crooked your teeth are, but my guess is somewhere around one and a half years.

I hope everything goes okay with your braces! Don't worry, you'll be fine.

1) You'll go to an Orthodontist. The rest will depend on how much correction your teeth need. Ask the dentist or orthodontist.

2) It doesn't hurt much putting them in. Your mouth feels a little stretched. No worries.

3) 7 - like someone punched you in the mouth; fortunately this goes away fast

4) This TOTALLY depends on how much correction your teeth need. Ask the dentist or orthodontist.

5) Braces are generally never covered. Your mother needs to call the insurance company. NO ONE ELSE can tell you.

6) The orthodontist will give you a list. Mostly, anything you have to bite into, like apples, or stuff that's really chewy, like candy.

7) That totally depends on you. I got used to mine within a week.

8) This REALLY depends on how much correction your teeth need. ONLY the orthodontist can tell you for sure.

Meanwhile, you should wait until you're 17 or so to get your braces if you're that worried.

Hi

First of all, you're making a big deal.

okay. I have braces, I am 14 and I've had them since I was like 10 (Because I had other problems too and my treatment stopped for a long time).

To answer your questions:

1) the first part doesn't hurt at all it just bothers you a little but it depends on how you take it. The dentist takes like gel and puts it on stencil or something ad leaves it on your teeth for like 3 or 5 minutes and then he does the same to the other side (down and up teeth). That's just to know how your teeth are ect. then, I don't know if you'll need a radiography WHICH DOESN'T HURT AT ALL DOING. and then he or she starts. It takes like 1 and a half hours or less and it goes all the way. after some years, they'll need to change your braces.

2) I think like a 3 or 2... people say it hurts but it really doesn't, it just feels funny but it doesn't hurt... well at least the way my dentist put them.

3) 2. right after you have your braces, it just feels like your teeth are tight but it doesn't hurt, it just feels funny. Then at night, people say it hurts but it really didn't hurt at all but if it does just drink some pills and you'll be alright. After a day you'll be good and it will start to feel normal.

4) I need to get my braces checked every month and NO IT DOES NOT HURT.

5) yeeeeaahh I dont know about that!

6) LOOK. I have eaten anything (except corn cuz it gets stuck sometimes) and nothing has happened to me. my dentist said I couldn't eat gum because it gets like tangled (which it does) but I'm always carefull. try not to eat hards things. It depends on the braces you get. when you just got your braces done. try to eat soft things, REALLY SOFT THINGS because if you eat like ICE or something, it WILL hurt.

7) idk! it takes barely days.

8) It depends on your condition

ADDITIONAT DETAILS ANSWER

I had like 5 teeth pulled out. It depends on where your braces are going to be. if they pull teeth out, they put you anesthesia so it doesn't hurt but it really bothered me... but its worth it cuz I won 20$ the next day and an ice cream! :P

1.)You only pay one visit to the dentist to actually have them put in, and that would probably take around 30 mins- hour usually for both top and bottom braces.

2)I would say the pain is maybe a four? it depends how well you tolerate pain. The only pain was when my dentist was like leaning on my jaw and stretching my mouth to get the part at the back in, so its not uncomfortable for long.

3)Ok well the pain after is worse as its like an aching pain? I would say maybe 6-7. I couldn't bite into anything, so I live off of soup and ice cream. which isn't so bad! but it really hurts if you accidentally bang your teeth, and when you brush them. But don't worry just be careful and gentle with them. and you can take painkillers. the pain is worth it honestly!

4)I had mine tightened once every month, it varied because he has to just ping the bands off then replace the wire etc (you will know what I mean if you have them) sometimes he leaned on my jaw and that hurts, and theres a bit of aching afterwards but it wares off. so about a 4 for pain.

5)I have no idea about this as im in england with the NHS. I basically went to a consultation and mine was severe enough to have them free. and my teeth weren't that wonky or anything.

6) they usually give you a list of food to avoid, mainly gum, chewy things, cola. I literally ignored that completely, it dosent matter that much. I broke my brace so many times. every time I went for a check up it was broken. and I actually swallowed some of my brace once! I was eating snack a jacks then next thing I knew part of my brace had gone.

7) once the pain wears off, its probably around a week or longer. at first you feel like ripping them off from your teeth though at first.

8)I had mine from February 2010 to March 2011. It depends on how fast your teeth move and settle.

also, once you get them off you have to wear a retainer every night so they don't move again.

its like that, you just pop it onto your teeth.
