The left side of my head has been numb (the scalp and temple), for the past three days now. Very creepy and weird (when I touch it I don't feel anything). When I stretch I will get weird sensations, tingling,m flowing, cascading sensations. But it will fall completely numb (sometimes, briefly, the whole scalp), but it lingers on the left side. The big toe on mt left foot has always been numb, but lately I will get a sharp shooting painful tingling in it. My left arm also gets weak for no reason sometimes.

I sit for very long periods at the computer, could it be circulation problems? Lack of exercise? Pinched nerves? The fact that it's mainly (or only) the left side of my body makes me very nervous though.

More likely than circulation problems is a nerve compression problem. Nerve compression or a nerve disorder is normally behind numbness like this. If your scalp numbness is coming from nerve compression, it's probably coming from the cervical spine (neck bones). A lot of people including me are prone to craning their necks forward while using a computer, and this can cause what you're reporting. Is your monitor off to the left of your keyboard? That could cause you to keep your head turned to the left and press on a nerve. Note that getting the pressure off the nerve doesn't always restore normal sensation immediately, which could account for the lingering numbness you report.

Some medical terms you can websearch for more information include computer neck syndrome, paresthesias, and dysesthesias (medical terms for numbness and other odd sensations).

There are other possibilities, including diabetes (possibly undiagnosed--many people have it and don't know it--and diabetes causes nerve damage), neurologic or neuromuscular disease, tumor, or other problem that is causing these sensations. I wouldn't even mention these possibilities except you're having these sensations in multiple locations which raises the chance that something more general is up. Most people with a numbness issue have it in one or two specific locations, and then nerve compression is normally the explanation. Of course in multiple locations, it can still be caused by nerve compression in multiple locations.

You might want to have it checked by a doctor. Changing your desk position and setup might help. Exercising more might help, yes.

Wishing you good luck and good health.
